On August 3, George Mel will appear before you in a different light
For 25 years, George Mel has accompanied some of the world’s greatest songwriters across various styles and cultures — including Esperanza Spalding, KJ Denhert, Raul Midon, Javier Ruibal, David Wilcox, and John Hall (to name just a few). As The New York City Jazz Record describes him, he is a “veteran of the New York jazz and world music scene.”
In this new project, drummer/percussionist/composer/singer-songwriter George Mel steps out of his usual supporting role and into the spotlight to present something entirely different: a genre-blending solo concert as a vocalist and songwriter (with guitar, cajón, and voice — sometimes joined by a rhythm section or guest soloists).
His program includes original songs as well as reinterpretations of carefully selected masterpieces by musical legends — from classical to contemporary, from all around the world. Singing in five languages, George Mel creates music truly worthy of a Globally Inspired Artist (GIA).
