The Galaktion Tabidze Memorial Museum officially opened on March 21, 1999, at 4 Marjanishvili Street in Tbilisi, following Decree No. 188 issued by Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze on March 16, 1999.
The museum was established through the initiative and support of the Writers' Union of Georgia. Its opening took place exactly 40 years after the poet's funeral, on March 21, 1999.
Dedicated to the great Georgian poet Galaktion Tabidze (1891–1959), the museum is housed in the residence where he spent the final years of his life, from 1935 to 1959.
The poet's study and living quarters have been preserved and restored to reflect their original appearance, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere in which he lived and worked.
Renovation and restoration work at the Galaktion Tabidze Memorial House Museum began in April 2019. The museum reopened to the public on July 22, 2020.
The renovation carefully preserved the historical and memorial character of the house while adapting its facilities to modern museum standards.
The exhibition spaces have been designed according to contemporary museographic principles, with installations presenting the poet's life and biography in chronological order.
In addition to personal memorabilia, the museum preserves photographs, manuscripts, and other historical documents that together form a valuable record of Galaktion Tabidze's life.
