Emigrant Artists
The tragic events of the early 20th century forced many artists to leave their homeland and start life from scratch. Their fates ranged from tragedy to triumph. These artists endured immense hardship — losing their country, facing personal losses, and surviving in difficult living conditions. Some managed to achieve international recognition and leave a lasting mark on the history of art.
We will talk about the most prominent of them, explore the challenges they faced, and how these experiences were reflected in their work.
We will also take a journey to Europe and discover how Adolf Hitler indirectly contributed to the United States becoming the global center of artistic innovation in the second half of the 20th century.
The lecture will be led by Liana Lashkhia, art historian and independent researcher.
