In modern-day Helsinki, two lonely souls in search of love meet by chance in a local karaoke bar. However, the pair's path to happiness is beset by numerous obstacles - from lost numbers to mistaken addresses, alcoholism, and a charming stray dog.
This is a movie that could be gloomy so easily, but Kaurismäki somehow manages to find this level of whimsy and and optimism. Though dealing with some heightened emotions, Fallen Leaves comes through as a gentle but deep reminder of mutual kindness.
