One of the latest films by our favorite director Leos Carax is a heart-wrenching musical about the deadly love between a stand-up comedian (Adam Driver) and an opera singer (Marion Cotillard), as well as their miraculous little girl Annette, who hasn't learned to speak yet but can already sing, using her magical voice to fill stadiums. On one hand, it's a film about fleeting fame, the anxiety and pain in the relationship of two loving individuals, and about the children who will have to deal with all of this later. On the other hand, it's about the abyss, which, as it is known, is dangerous to look into, otherwise it will look back at you.
The musical was written by the band Sparks. It has been officially announced that they wrote the screenplay as well, but some moments in the plot vaguely hint at certain aspects of Leos Carax's own biography. His wife, St. Petersburg native Ekaterina Golubeva, died under mysterious circumstances, much like the heroine of this film. The film is dedicated to their shared daughter, Nastya Golubeva-Carax, which only intensifies suspicions.
