Anatomy of a Fall

Simultaneously a family tragedy in the spirit of Bergman, a psychological thriller, and a courtroom drama, the film tells the story of a writer suspected of killing her husband. But finding out what happened is not always possible; sometimes the truth turns out to be too subjective, even during the investigation whose goal is to find the killer. Therefore, "Anatomy of a Fall" is not a detective story but a skillful imitation of it, in fact closer to Bergman and his "Scenes from a Marriage." Beneath the shell of a dry genre exercise lies exquisite authorial cinema, concerned with damned questions and not offering easy answers to them.

In the career of German actress Sandra Hüller ("Requiem," "Toni Erdmann"), Triet's film is the most virtuosic and complex work. Especially since she plays in two languages foreign for her: English and French.
