A politic drama that doesn’t lose relevance even today. Directed by Tengiz Abuladze, symbolically in 1984, it satirically depicts the painful process of “unearthing”, exploring tyrannical past and re-evaluating it.
The allegorical symbolism of “Repentance” does not in the least prevent the authors from calling a spade a spade. Abuladze is against any power based on dictatorship, against the humiliation of Man and his Faith.
The film is considered one of the best films about dictatorship in the world. On 40th Cannes Film Festival it received the Jury prize.
