A Swedish film about life as an endless and protracted apocalypse.
The film has no central plot; it consists of fifty short episodes or sketches, sometimes ironic, sometimes quite absurd. A carpenter dreams that he's been sent to the electric chair for breaking a soup tureen. A psychiatrist has lost faith in people's ability to be happy due to their selfishness and now just prescribes potent medications to everyone. An insane man drags a hopelessly entangled dog on a leash past us. A cantankerous woman sings about how she would leave this damn place if she had a motorcycle. Against this backdrop, the only semi-alive impression is made by the attractive waitress Anna, who dreams of being embraced by the guitarist Miki.
As the director himself said, "It's just a tragic comedy or a comic tragedy about us."
