A young couple, new college professor Nick and his wife, late at night visit the daughter of the college president, Martha, and her husband. Everyone is in a state of intoxication, as there was a party earlier that evening where they all met. George and Martha constantly argue with each other, trying to involve their guests in their psychological games. It becomes clear that their family life is an ongoing war.
