In Maybrook, Pennsylvania, 17 children vanish. All of them were classmates who, as if in collusion, ran out of their homes at 2:17 a.m. The only one who didn’t join them was Alex, the class outcast. Parents suspect the young homeroom teacher, Justine Gandy, who recently moved to town.

Three years ago, comedian Zach Cregger caused quite a stir with Barbarian—a ridiculous yet energetic horror movie that cleverly played with audience expectations. This is his second feature, and it may well become a cult classic thanks to its many possible interpretations and the director’s witty inventions.
