Stealing Beauty

After the suicide of her mother, a renowned poet and top model, 19-year-old American Lucy travels to Italy. She is set to spend the summer at the villa of long-time family friends, find her father, and lose her virginity. But there is yet another, perhaps the main motive of this trip: the desire to unravel the mystery of a cryptic entry in her mother's abandoned diary.

Bertolucci captures a tender, extremely sensual flow of emotions and moods that envelop all of his characters: young and old, energetic and incurably ill, artists and jesters. Personal experiences, family crises, old age, and skeletons in the family closet dissolve into sudden flashes of levity, euphoria, and intimacy.
