On January 25, the Ursa Major Choir will once again perform its new program LUMINA NOCTE ("Light in the Night"), featuring classical choral music from the 20th and 21st centuries, accompanied by a unique light show from a duo of media artists.
The venue is the magnificent St. Peter and Paul Apostles' Roman Catholic Church.
On December 27, the Ursa Major Choir gave a concert, premiering its new Christmas program, accompanied by a light show. The performance combined classical choral tradition with modern light media technologies, the eternal beauty of the church interior, and the sincere emotionality of the young group of singers under the creative direction of Eugene Ivanov.
There is nothing more important to a musician than the opportunity to share. However, in December, not everyone who wanted to attend the concert could do so — 200 tickets were sold in 8 days. Therefore, the choir is repeating its festive program.
LUMINA NOCTE ("Light in the Night") is the music of consolation, the music of hope. This program is a thoughtfully curated selection of various choral works from the 20th and 21st centuries with religious or philosophical-poetic texts: composers include Arvo Pärt, Francis Poulenc, John Tavener, Randall Thompson, Ēriks Ešenvalds.
Julia Krivosheenko and Savva Mihaescu are media artists whose unique light show will accompany the choir's singing, seamlessly intertwining with the concert. Music will become light, and light will become music.
The concert venue deserves a special presentation: once again, the Catholic St. Peter and Paul Apostles' Church, a 19th-century building with an extraordinary interior, opens its doors to the Ursa Major and to all of you.
LUMINA NOCTE ("Light in the Night") will be a mostly quiet, sometimes meditative, sometimes deeply emotional concert. We hope that each of you will take away something from this evening that will warm your soul, at least for a little while, and light your way.
At any time it is important to remember: starlight is best seen in the darkness of night…
