Unofficial Art of the USSR

The harsher the regime, the more inventive the methods of resistance. There were many forms and directions within the Soviet nonconformist movement, but what united them was a shared desire to be part of the contemporary world.
During the lecture, we’ll talk about the "under-the-cabinet" culture of the post-Stalinist USSR, and also:

Explore the reasons for the emergence and the specifics of the Soviet underground scene,

Understand how conceptualism and Sots Art bloomed amid the monolithic Socialist Realism,

Reflect on the shifting narratives within Soviet culture.
