TRUSO VALLEY 2.0 – UPDATED HIKING ROUTE
by georgian__adventures
We've redesigned this route because the traditional hiking trails, due to their length, don't cover all the incredible sights of Truso Valley. We've fixed that!
PROGRAM
• Travel by 4×4 jeep deep into the valley, where we'll begin our hike from the furthest accessible point—saving approximately 6 km of walking compared to the standard route.
• Thanks to the jeep, we'll hike all the way to the medieval Zakagori Fortress, beyond the border guards' outpost—the furthest point of the valley accessible to visitors.
• Mountain weather can change quickly, so our vehicle will always be nearby and can pick us up whenever needed.
• We'll also stop at the most scenic highlights along the famous Georgian Military Highway.
• In Truso Valley we'll visit all the major attractions, including:
Colorful natural mineral springs
The spectacular Carbonated Lake — icy cold, rich in iron, and filled with naturally sparkling mineral water that's perfectly safe (and delicious) to drink.
• We'll visit the village of Abano and the Church of the Assumption. Opposite the church is a guesthouse and a restaurant operating on a "pay what you want" basis.
• We'll reach Zakagori Fortress, a picturesque 14th-century fortified settlement with impressive ruins overlooking the upper Terek River.
• Picnic in a scenic location. We'll stop at a supermarket before leaving the city, and we'll provide light snacks and hot tea.
