An unsettling film by Nuri Bilge Ceylan about moral compromises and deals with one’s conscience. An influential politician hits a pedestrian and pays his driver to take the blame.
The film’s title refers to a Japanese parable of the three monkeys. One covers its eyes, another its ears, and the third its mouth. With this gesture, the first monkey says, “I do not see evil and folly.” The second: “I do not hear evil and folly.” The third: “I do not speak with evil and folly.”
Winner of the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival.
