A woman with two daughters marries a wealthy widower — or so she thinks — but after his sudden death, she finds herself in even greater debt. Her older daughter Elvira, the unattractive stepsister of the beautiful Agnes, dreams of marrying a prince and is willing to do whatever it takes to become beautiful and shine at the upcoming ball. Seeing it as a profitable investment, the mother sends Elvira to have a nose reshaping surgery.
