The Tempest

The Tempest by William Shakespeare is a story shrouded in mystery: is it reality, or a collection of dreams unfolding within the human imagination? We often create imagined worlds that we fully control. This control grants a sense of power, and power gives the illusion of happiness. Yet when power becomes uncontrollable, we lose the ability to govern the very world we have created with our own hands, crossing boundaries and causing harm to the environment, society, and one another.

Our production of The Tempest tells the story of a man consumed by his imagination, driven by a desire for revenge, who punishes and destroys those who have wronged him. He exacts retribution for the suffering inflicted upon him. In the end, however, a moment of forgiveness arrives—toward oneself, toward enemies, toward the world.

Forgiveness is the only way to begin again, to rise from the depths and rebuild both our imagined and our real lives. Forgiveness is the path to attaining the most essential freedom—within ourselves and in the world.
