A cult film with a whole constellation of actors about an amazing family of intellectuals and their special, quirky world
The old, worn-out sinner, Royal Tenenbaum, returns to the cheerful family that he abandoned many years ago. In order to repair his relationship with his wife, adopted daughter, two sons, and two grandchildren, he has to fake stomach cancer.
It was in this film that Anderson finally formed his recognizable style: his awkward, sad heroes settled in symmetrical spaces of pastel tones. However, in contrast to the candy atmosphere, the director is frighteningly sincere and painful here—perhaps more than anywhere else.
