About the film:

The Great Depression, 1930s.

Serial killer and self-proclaimed preacher Harry Powell is arrested and sentenced to one month in prison for car theft.

There, he meets Ben Harper, who robbed a bank, killed two employees, and hid $10,000 — a secret known only to his children.

After Harper is executed, Powell is released and decides to find the hidden money.
To get to it, he marries Harper’s trusting widow.
