The Man Who Wasn't There

A quiet small-town barber discovers that his wife is having an affair and decides to pull off a scheme—blackmail her lover and invest the money into the then-trendy dry cleaning business. But things don’t go as planned, and Ed’s life begins to unravel.

The screenplay was written by the Coen brothers themselves, inspired by Albert Camus’ existential novella The Stranger. Although it was shot in color, the film was converted to black-and-white in post-production to evoke the look and feel of classic American film noir.
