The Hunt

A Danish drama starring Mads Mikkelsen (“Hannibal,” “Another Round”) about a small lie that spirals out of control and destroys the life of a kindergarten teacher.

Lucas — a Christian who deeply believes that people are inherently good — lives in a small village where everyone is in plain view of one another. By the time he reaches forty, his life finally begins to stabilize: he meets a woman he loves and rebuilds his relationship with his teenage son. Everything is going well until a lie told by his best friend’s daughter starts spreading through the community like a virus.

Thomas Vinterberg — the guy who co-founded the legendary Dogme 95 movement with Lars von Trier and made its first film, the Cannes-winning “The Celebration.” Both have long stepped away from Dogme’s strict rules, but not from the shared tone: in spirit, The Hunt somewhat echoes Trier’s Dogville.
