“The Fire” is a play based on true stories, portraying one of the tragic chapters of Georgia's recent history.
At the heart of the story is Neli's family, whose experience represents the fate of countless Georgians who were forced to leave their homes in Abkhazia and became internally displaced persons in their own country.
Neli struggles to survive, to secure a future for her children, and to hold on to hope for her husband, who remained in Sukhumi and whose fate is unknown to her.
She believes that suffering does not mean defeat and that hope will give her the strength to endure — and, one day, to return to her home.
But unexpectedly, her husband returns to the family, disoriented and having lost all hope.
Now everything rests on Neli — a woman carrying the heavy burden of recent history on her shoulders, yet still holding on to the belief that one day we will once again fall asleep in our own homes. In peace.
