On Monday, we begin a new series of talks dedicated to the history of resistance in countries of the socialist bloc.
At the session on April 6, we will discuss the history of Cuba:
• The path of the “barbudos” from liberators to tyrants.
• How the overthrow of Batista turned into a totalitarian communist dictatorship.
• The Escambray uprising of the 1960s and the years of guerrilla warfare.
• Anti-communist insurgents — keepers of the flame and the true faces of the revolution.
• The “microfaction”: the drama of internal opposition.
• The struggle for emigration and attempts to cross the strait.
• Dissidence in white and the tragedy of Cuban human rights activism.
• Malecon 1994 — a desperate uprising of the slums. Street protests and their suppression.
• The tyranny of Castroism and the secret of its longevity.
Cuba today is a fossilised regime on the brink of collapse.
Join us to explore more deeply the history of resistance in this country.
The talk will be led by journalist and historian Vadim Lifshits.
