On Friday evening, we invite you to the first session of our new workshop series on art, where we will explore how modern culture was shaped.
The 19th century is the era in which modern art was born — and one of the most important keys to understanding it.
This was the period when major artistic styles and movements began to fragment, giving birth to new directions that later became the foundation of the richness and diversity of contemporary culture.
That’s why we are launching this course — to explore the core concepts of 19th-century art.
The first session will focus on the fundamental elements of 19th-century artistic culture.
Together we will explore:
• Artistic styles and movements
• Creative groups and communities
• Iconic visual images and symbols that shaped an era
We will discuss movements such as:
• Romanticism
• Realism
• Impressionism
• Naturalism
• the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood
• Symbolism
• Art Nouveau
And many more key ideas and fascinating nuances.
We’ll also discuss the major artists of the era, their methods, discoveries, and works.
This is the foundation for our future journey into the beauty, complexity, and meaning of 19th-century art.
As always, practice comes first.
You won’t just listen — you’ll actively discover knowledge through hands-on workshops under the guidance of an art historian.
That means what you learn will stay with you for a long time.
We begin with visual art, but if you actively participate, we’ll continue with unique materials about theater and the intersections between different art forms.
Join us to discover how 19th-century art changed the way we see the world — and learn to see behind paintings, styles, and symbols an entire era and the world it helped create.
The session will be led by Margarita Solis (@rrrita_solis) — art historian, theater scholar, and creator of Rita del Arte | Art History with Margarita Solis.
