In Poland and France, two young girls (both played by Irène Jacob) with the same appearance and the same name, Veronika, live simultaneously. There is a mysterious connection between them, which each of them vaguely suspects. After the death of one of the heroines, the other feels as if her life continues someone else's: «Maybe it's important, maybe it's not. I have always been here and not here at the same time. It's hard to explain, but I always know, I feel what I have to do».
«The Double Life of Veronique» is a hypnotic, unsettling, and incredibly beautiful film. Against all the laws of cinema, Kieślowski hunts for the invisible in it, trying to show on screen not the mystery itself but its touch, something weightless and yet undeniably present.
