When was the last time you watched a truly good documentary film — one that leaves you wanting to talk not only with the director, but also with the main character afterward?
This Monday, we invite you to a screening of the documentary film
“The Crow Defeats the Wind” by Dmitry Veprev — a thoughtful and deeply personal reflection on inner freedom, vulnerability, and resistance to circumstances.
As a young documentary filmmaker searches for a subject for his graduation film, his neighbor turns out to be Alexey Uminskiy — a priest who has recently been stripped of his clerical status in Russia for his anti-war stance. The film explores adaptation to a new life, maintaining a connection with the past, and the friendship of people brought together by similar circumstances and sheer coincidence.
The film was created as part of the DocKvartira Documentary Film School, held at Frame in 2024.
After the screening, there will be a discussion with the film’s director Dmitry Veprev and the main character, Alexey Uminskiy, author of the popular YouTube channel
“Day Seven. Alexey Uminskiy.”
This is a rare opportunity to talk about how the film was made, what remained behind the scenes, and what it feels like to see your own story through the lens of documentary cinema. We will be glad to share this evening of film and live conversation with you.
The screening will be in Russian with English subtitles.
