Everyone wants to be a law-abiding person, but if the state in which you live is criminal, then your obedience inevitably turns into a crime. This is the price of conformity that Dr. Marcello Clerici is forced to pay, receiving an order from the fascist authorities to go to France in order to organize and carry out the liquidation of an Italian anti-fascist professor.
