“Breaking the Waves” at ArtCinema

God gives everyone something to make them better. A young girl, Bess, from a remote community in north-west Scotland, has fallen in love with a nice guy, Ian, who works on an offshore rig. Despite opposition from relatives, they get married. Bess asks God to keep Ian always by her side, and Ian returns to her crippled after a drilling accident. What can a young woman do to keep her loved one alive? What kind of sacrifice can she make?
