Stain

Aleko Tsabadze’s debut feature film “Stain” was released in 1985 and marked a completely new direction in Georgian Soviet cinema. A new generation — later referred to as the “lost generation” — emerged with a distinct and original voice in filmmaking.

The young director focuses on the pressing social issues of contemporary youth, the world of so-called underground musicians, and music that had rarely, if ever, been heard in Soviet films before. The lead role is played by musician Kisho Glunchadze, whose music and songs also form the film’s soundtrack.

About the film:
The spiritual emptiness of youth and the indifference of society lead the characters to a tragic outcome. What begins as a seemingly harmless bet escalates into a conflict that ends in the tragic death of a young man.
