SORREENTINO'S SOUNDSCAPES Simple Music Ensemble World & Auditoria

Auditoria is becoming Simple Music House Tbilisi, the permanent Tbilisi residence of Simple Music Ensemble World. We are opening the concert series with a programme dedicated to the music featured in Paolo Sorrentino’s films.

For Sorrentino, music is not merely a soundtrack to the image — it is an independent part of his cinematic language. It can challenge what is happening on screen, create contrast, and sometimes reveal more about the characters than the dialogue itself. In his films, a choir sings the Beatitudes as the camera moves past people who stopped believing in anything long ago. A liturgy is edited like a music video. A party suddenly gives way to silence, and in that silence we realise that the celebration was actually about death. His entire cinematic world is built in the space between the sacred and the mundane.

The Great Beauty (2013) brought Sorrentino an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and four European Film Academy awards, including the award for Best European Film. Youth (2015) was named Best European Film, while Sorrentino himself was recognised as Best European Director. Over two decades, he has created his own universe: Rome and Naples, ageing men, beauty as the last form of consolation — and his own musical world to accompany it, bringing contemporary composers together with established classics.
