The first Thai film to hit the screens at the Cannes Film Festival. A non-linear film about memory, dedicated to the director's parents.
The director himself describes the concept this way: “The film is about transformation, about how people transform for the better. It is a film about the heart. It’s not necessarily about love; it’s more about memory. It’s about feelings that are forever etched in the heart.”
Wirasetakul is one of Cannes' favorites. He creates exotic cinema by Western standards in the genre of magical realism: his films are populated by spirits, ghosts, and completely natural wonders that belong to this world. Pronouncing the director's name without stumbling has become a test of cinephilia, but he himself asks to be called simply Joe.
