Description

This is the story of a marginal family living in Tokyo, surviving on petty theft and occasional jobs. At the same time, the family members build warm and fragile bonds that challenge conventional ideas of kinship, care, and love.

Shoplifters premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d’Or in 2018. Critics and audiences alike praised its thoughtful direction and unpredictable storytelling.

Hirokazu Kore-eda is known for his attention to everyday life and family relationships, which is also evident in his other films such as Nobody Knows, After Life, and Our Little Sister.

Expect a subtle and deeply human film about poverty, dignity, and what truly makes people a family.

Join us to watch this excellent film on a big screen with great sound, in the company of like-minded people — and stay to discuss what you’ve seen in a cozy atmosphere.

Please note: the screening starts at 8:00 PM — we’re experimenting to allow more time for conversation and connection.
