Secrets of the Caves
Imereti: The Underground Kingdom of Georgia
Get ready for a real adventure! Imereti is not just a region, but a treasure trove of caves surrounded by dense green forests and a pleasant, warm climate. Here, you will see amazing views — from quiet valleys to rocky plateaus with grottos, sinkholes, and underground rivers.
As usual, we will go off the beaten tourist paths to a secret cave where the silence is broken only by drops of water falling from ancient vaults. The Tsutskhvati cave impresses with its scale and shapes — ancient, multi-layered, seemingly created by nature itself for those who seek the unknown.
Departure
We leave Batumi at 8 AM, the drive takes about 3 hours. Beautiful landscapes will open up along the way.
Secret Cave
The cave has no name but features a very interesting relief inside. It is very well preserved. Our naturalist guide will tell us about the minerals we encounter and why caves are so fascinating in general. We’ll look at the bats resting quietly on the ceiling. We will study the structure of stalactites and stalagmites, and the varieties of speleothems.
The cave is not narrow — you can walk upright inside.
Afterwards, we will have lunch in a cozy clearing.
Tsutskhvati Cave
This cave has many entrances and exits, and 13 levels. It was once home to ancient human ancestors and cave bears. We will walk through several cave chambers, observe different relief forms, and possibly see bats.
Our naturalist guide will conduct a tour explaining the features of this cave, what minerals and formations develop, and how caves live.
Besides the caves, we will enjoy the beautiful road and nature around.
Return Home
After enjoying the beauty of the caves and green forest, we will have tea with delicious cupcakes — then head back home.
We expect to return to Batumi around 8 PM.
