We invite you to a light hike to the natural monument “Sakhizari Pillars.” Before the hike, we will visit Hevsky Sioni (a 10th–11th century basilica), admire the rare archaic altar partition, and see the watchtower overlooking the Georgian Military Road.
Starting from the edge of the village Sioni, we will embark on a beautiful hike with a tour led by biologist Alexey Sivukhin. We will enjoy the landscapes, learn about the plants and inhabitants of this area, and taste blueberries, lingonberries, and cloudberries (have you ever tried them?).
Finally, we will see an unusual natural monument — the “place of refuge,” as it is called in Georgian. This is a complex of erosion-formed pillars on the volcanic mountain Kabardzhina. During times of conflict, these rocks served as a shelter for local residents. The bravest among you will have the chance to climb up to the pillars and examine them up close.
