“Sadness Will Come Later” is the long-awaited new production by Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, marking another virtuosic chapter in their creative collaboration and holding a special place in Eyal's body of work. It is the choreographer's most personal creation to date.
The performance is dedicated to Sharon's mother, Adina Eyal. Yet it is neither a requiem nor a ritual of mourning. It is a work about the continuation of life — about the invisible traces people leave within us when they are gone.
What remains is more than memories: their presence lives on in our bodies, movements, breathing, gaze, habits, and rhythms. They continue to exist within us.
The choreographer captures the essence of the work in three sentences:
“After death, life goes on.
Sadness continues, as does innocence.
This is how a mother continues to live.”
