Eyes Wide Shut

An explicit story about marital relationships is full of sexual fantasies, jealousy, Freudian motifs, and a thirst for the forbidden.

The young and successful married couple is played by their real spouses, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. After a luxurious Christmas party where they both flirt with strangers, Alice confesses to her husband about her secret sexual fantasies and her last year's impulse to leave him. Tormented by jealousy, Bill embarks on a mystical nighttime journey with many temptations. The boundary between reality and dream gradually blurs, forbidden desires come to the surface, and Bill is plunged into a whirlpool of dangerous temptations.

This is Stanley Kubrick's final film. Being a perfectionist and not experiencing studio pressure, Kubrick worked on it for several years, shooting countless takes and rewriting the script on the go. In the end, he did not live to see the premiere: he died in his sleep from a heart attack when the work was almost completed.

After the release of the film, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman divorced. Journalists cited their immersion in the roles of tired spouses as the reason for their divorce.
