“Prosopoetic Forms” — the third session of the course
“Theory and Practice of Experimental Writing”
The term “ornamental prose”, which emerged in the 1910s, introduced a new approach to writing prose texts. In this type of prose, it is not the plot that comes to the foreground, but metaphors, rhythm, and associations — elements traditionally associated with poetry.
As a case study, we will examine “Thirty-Three Freaks” by Lidia Zinovieva-Annibal: despite the presence of an overarching narrative, the text is woven from imagery characteristic of the poetry of the Younger Symbolists.
