Princess Mononoke

One of the most popular anime of all time

Japan, 14th century. Young prince Ashitaka, after killing a terrifying demon-boar in the forest, becomes infected with an incurable disease and brings upon himself a deadly curse. An old village witch tells him that he has only one chance to survive. To do so, he must travel to the West, where evil reigns, and rid himself of the curse.

The animated film lasts over two hours - it is understandable why American distributors decided to shorten the film before its release in the US. In response to this demand, the producer of Studio Ghibli sent a katana to the representative of Miramax with a note: «No cuts.»

In Japan, «Princess Mononoke£ became the highest-grossing film in history, only to be surpassed by «Titanic» a year later.
