George Balanchine (Giorgi Balanchivadze) is one of the greatest choreographers of all time — and the most famous Georgian in the world of dance.

Balanchine’s journey took him from post-revolutionary Russia, through Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, to founding his own company in the U.S.
He is recognized as the founding father of American ballet and the creator of its first professional company.

Together, we’ll explore:
 Who was George Balanchine?
How did he become the most influential choreographer of the 20th century?
 What makes his style so unique?

And after the lecture, we’ll go to see his ballets at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre.
