Description

THURSDAY, October 1st | 8:30 PM – Philosophy Discussion: Honesty: Policies of Truth 🧠
This week we’ll be discussing Honesty: Policies of Truth.
Honesty is often treated as a simple virtue: telling the truth is good, and lying is bad. But philosophy complicates this. Kant argued that truthfulness is a moral duty, while Mill allows us to ask whether the consequences of honesty sometimes matter more than the rule itself. Nietzsche questions how objective our “truths” really are, while Foucault and Arendt explore how truth becomes entangled with power, institutions, and politics.
We’ll ask where we should draw the boundaries between honesty, deception, privacy, kindness, and responsibility. Do we always owe others the truth? Can silence be a lie? And when truth causes harm, is honesty still the most ethical choice?
No philosophy background is needed. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and your willingness to reconsider what you think you know.
