A surreal tragicomedy that tells the story of events in a country engulfed in crisis. One evening in Stockholm, strange occurrences begin to unfold. An older man goes mad after being ruthlessly fired from his job. A lost immigrant is brutally beaten in the street. A magician makes a fatal mistake during a performance, genuinely sawing an unfortunate volunteer in half. A confused man, who in despair has burned his furniture store to the ground, is haunted by the ghost of a strangled person. A huge crowd of important and gloomy adults sacrifices an innocent girl. The city is experiencing unimaginable traffic jams; well-dressed officials walk solemnly down the streets, whipping themselves with lashes. It seems that the hour everyone has feared for so long has finally arrived.
Roy Andersson appears in our program periodically; you may remember him from "A Swedish Love Story" and the surreal drama "You, Living."
