This week we remember Iranian artist and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi — creator of the autobiographical graphic novel and animated film *Persepolis*, who made the seemingly “exotic” events of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran accessible and relatable to Western audiences.
Young Marjane loves her parents, her grandmother, punk music, and Bruce Lee. She also loves the Shah, whom she learns about at school. It is 1978, and she is growing up in Tehran on the eve of the Islamic Revolution.
🏆 Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, César Awards for Best Debut and Best Adapted Screenplay, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
