“Pathetic Monologues” is a play by young writer, playwright, and actor Temo Rekhviashvili, set inside a theatre and unfolding through a scenario familiar to many.
The colleagues of a deceased actor gather at the theatre for his memorial service and deliver speeches. Scenes from stage productions are reenacted, while films featuring the late actor are screened.
Through a series of monologues, the life and career of the central character — the deceased actor Archil Kiachieli — gradually unfold before the audience, revealing his personal struggles and concerns while simultaneously offering a glimpse into the world of Georgian theatre.
With his characteristic blend of humor, wit, and sharp observation, the author explores the emotions, thoughts, and everyday realities of a person working in the cultural sphere, while also portraying the social, political, and everyday circumstances that surround us today.
