Two brothers find themselves in a dim forest after either dying or discovering a portal between worlds. There they encounter living pumpkins, a talking horse, a mysterious woodsman, a bird formerly a girl, some unknown entity, and, most importantly, the terrifying Beast from the Unknown. Throughout the series, the heroes attempt to find their way back home.
This is the cutest of Halloween-themed cartoons, resembling a pleasant nightmare that one would wish to prolong. It was created by Patrick McHale, the art director and writer of Adventure Time. Over the Garden Wall is slightly less psychedelic but no less eccentric. It is highly inventive, absurd, and yet childishly logical. In short, it is a delightful wonder.
