John, a terminally ill window cleaner and single father, learns he only has a few months to live and devotes that time to finding a foster family for his four-year-old son, Michael.

"On the first day of filming, director Uberto Pasolini gave me a black pebble and asked me to carry it in my pocket every day of the shoot. He said the pebble symbolized death, and although our film is about life and a father's love for his son, it was important to remember that death is always close to the character."
