On March 3, we invite you to a movie night dedicated to Mother’s Day.
We will be watching “My Mother Is a Magician” (Once Upon My Mother) — a 2025 film directed by Ken Scott, based on the autobiographical book by Roland Perez.
Paris, 1963. In a large family, a sixth child — Roland — is born. Doctors are convinced that due to a congenital deformity, he will never be able to walk. His mother, Esther, refuses to accept this. She does not stage dramatic battles — she simply begins to act: searching for doctors, methods, opportunities, and support.
The film spans several decades — from Roland’s childhood to his adult life. It is a story not only about overcoming a diagnosis, but also about the complex bond between mother and son: about the power of faith, the cost of expectations, and how a parent’s determination shapes destiny and character.
