A young teacher named Samet is finishing four years of mandatory teaching at a village school in Anatolia. He wants to find a job in Istanbul, but all his hopes are shattered when two students accuse him and another teacher of harassment.
In this film, Ceylan returns once again to his beloved snowy landscapes of Anatolia. Samet, full of ambition but devoid of illusions, engages in long conversations about morality, responsibility, and the choice between action and inaction. The result is a film that is both intoxicatingly verbose and remarkably alive.
The film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes for Best Actress.
