Description

Based on Andrus Kivirähk's acclaimed novel Rehepapp, NOVEMBER plunges into a world where werewolves roam the forests, ghosts linger among the living, witches bargain with the Devil and strange creatures known as kratts work tirelessly for their owners. Drawing on centuries of Estonian folklore, the film presents a world where magic isn't extraordinary. It's simply part of everyday life.

Director Rainer Sarnet spent years bringing this mythology to the screen, creating one of the most visually distinctive European films of the last decade. Shot in luminous black and white by cinematographer Mart Taniel, every frame feels like an old photograph, a forgotten fairy tale or a half-remembered nightmare. The result is both hauntingly beautiful and deeply unsettling.

Despite its supernatural setting, NOVEMBER is ultimately a story about love, greed, faith and survival. Beneath its witches, spirits and dark humour lies a portrait of ordinary people trying to navigate a harsh world where every bargain comes with a price.

Winner of multiple Estonian Film and Television Awards, NOVEMBER has become a modern cult classic and one of the defining works of contemporary Baltic cinema. It's funny, eerie, romantic and unlike anything else you'll see this year.
