Our attentive viewers have noticed that lately we are not limiting ourselves to films and sometimes watch series. This mini-series lasts only 3.5 hours – quite a good length to watch it in one sitting.
A 19-year-old Jewish girl named Esty flees from her marriage and the ultra-Orthodox community in Williamsburg (a neighborhood in New York City). She moves to Berlin, but her husband and his cousin follow her – this is the decision made by the community rabbi, as Esty's escape seems to him a "dangerous precedent."
The film is partially based on the true story of Deborah Feldman, an Orthodox Jew who rejected her Hasidic roots. "Unorthodox" is a story about how traditions and the future are not antonyms. They are two sides that need to sit down and come to an agreement.
