Hiking in Mtirala National Park to the waterfall and lake, Colchian forest, picnic
If you find yourself in Adjara, a visit to the Colchian Forest is a must. Not doing so is like traveling to Africa and not seeing the savannahs.
The Colchian forests are relic, subtropical forests that have survived glacial periods. They are among the oldest forests in Western Eurasia. Many ancient plant species have been preserved here — for example, Colchian fir and boxwood, Pontic oak and Colchian ivy, Pontic rhododendron and yew berries. These species are natural monuments.
Imagine being in the subtropics, with lianas, very high humidity, and an incredible amount of greenery!
